Welcome to the
People and Politics website

The partnership “People and Politics” was a learning exchange programme concerning methods for citizen participation in local community development cases.
T
he programme was initiated in 2007 and finished in 2009. There were seven programme partners from six different European countries, repreresenting both NGOs and local authorities:
  • CESAM (Sweden)
  • Christian Student Settlement (Denmark)
  • Civil College Foundation (Hungary)
  • Fundació Desenvolupament Comunitari (Catalonia/Spain)
  • The Ideas Bank Foundation (Norway)
  • Romanian Association for Community Development (Romania)
  • Sagene district, The City of Oslo (Norway) - programme coordinator

The partnership arranged four mobility meetings. At each meeting case studies were presented and discussed. Local politicians, citizens / volunteers and staff were gathered to dialogue about working with citizen participation, including themes within intercultural / multilingual challenges and the different contexts within the involved countries.

Each meeting contained concrete exercises of methods to secure a “hands-on” learning for the participants. Each meeting also contained study visits and evaluations.

The partnership planned and made a website which contains a menu to include a background of information on Community Development practices in general, a Toolbox of techniques and methods for participation and a grid for  analysis of the contexts within which facilitators can study own practice.

There is also links to local, national and international resources and a presentation of the project and the partner organisations.

The final meeting in Oslo in June 2009 established informal networks among the participant organizations and local groups to continue international collaborations.

We hope that  the material on this website can serve as documentation, inspiration and reference for your own work with citizen participation and community development throughout Europe - or elsewhere.
